standardized_test_clip_artAssessment is vital for successful teaching. In gifted education, pre-assessment is a critical first step in appropriately differentiating instruction. I have used a variety of assessment methods during my time as a teacher and as a student as William and Mary.

Here are a few examples of pre-assessments from the unit I wrote for EPPL 612. The unit, entitled Ancient Greece: Culture and Influence, is a social studies unit for gifted third graders. I created formal pre-assessments and rubrics for each of the three major strands in the unit: primary source interpretation, reasoning, and conceptual knowledge. Students also engaged in a concept mapping activity to demonstrate content knowledge.
